Meet Clara

Tell us a little bit about yourself.

I was born in Wilmington, MA. When I was 7, my family moved to Medford and I grew up there. I have lived and raised my children in Arlington since 1958 - 56 years! I am the youngest of 9 children. I love to garden and sew quilts and read all different kinds of books. I also volunteer in the local food pantry and nursing home doing arts and crafts. I am involved in the garden club and do a lot of civic garden sprucing up.

List six positive aspects about yourself.

1. Very patient
2. I'm generous with my family and charities with both my time and money.
3. I'm pretty liberal. I try not to be judgmental and take/accept people are they are. Always trying to keep an open mind about people and various issues.
4. In my head, I'm really 25 trapped in an 80 something body - I'm always interested in trying new things or learning something new. I'm pretty young in my mind.
5. I'm a hard worker. I always have had a strong work ethic and was always a multi-tasker....held a full-time job, raised kids, did all the grocery shopping. I always worked as hard as my husband alongside him in whatever job we were doing in or around the house.
6. Physical appearance....I would say my hands. They are small but have always been strong, hard working hands and have always helped me accomplish whatever I set my mind to do...learning to quilt, knitting, digging large rocks out of the garden...anything I need them for...they're capable. (My daughter also would say my mind, because of me being liberal-minded).

Please share a story about YOU with us that relates in any way to this movement.

I try to always have a positive outlook with everything in life. I think it's just my nature to go to the positive. I try not to dwell on the negatives of life because it can be depressing and I don't like feeling that way. Sometimes I feel down, but quickly try to get over that feeling by checking out my plants/flowers...anything that makes me happy. I'm naturally a happy person.

I like to laugh..funny jokes, movies with happy endings, watching the birds in my garden and my flowers blooming. My little grandchildren make me smile - they make me happy...spending time with them, listening to their stories and their accomplishments. Watching my kids success and their accomplishments.

Why do you want to be a part of she.?

Because I'm almost 84 years old and my message to women of all ages is to always look to the bright positive side of life. Keep positive thought and always look forward...keep improving. Oh, and stay in school, go to college or find a trade. Educate yourself!
